F Tinsley over-estimated the lift of that airship. The only way it could possibly lift all the weight attached to it is by using atomic power to heat the helium to a “red-hot vacuum” - but this is not mentioned in the article.
It was also unnecessary to make it a lighter-than-air vehicle. It could have been a very, very large Osprey-style VTOL aircraft - stronger, faster, LOUDER - that could fly forever and land anywhere!
